Another Shut down Due to Nursing Home Abuse

Another nursing home in Michigan is being shut down. This comes on the heels of the most recent accusations from the state that patient care is substandard and at times, patients have been put in outright danger. Just since their last inspection alone, they have been sited an additional 29 times. Accordingly, the state feels it is necessary to take these measures to ensure an immediate shut down. According to T.J. Bucholz, Michigan Dept. of Community Health: "The situation has come to a point where it's almost absolutely unsafe."

The ongoing problems range from nursing home staff failing to investigate allegations of abuse to causing direct harm to residents in their care. According to T. J. Bucholz "We're looking at things involving pressure sores and range of motion." Apparently, this particular center has a long history of violations. Although many of the residents are distraught, given the fact that they are losing the only home they know, it is clear that they will be better off in the long run.
