Teenager Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter and Felony Hit and Run

19-year old Alan Purdy of San Luis Obispo is being charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run charges. The California Highway Patrol said 19-year old Alan Purdy was driving near San Miguel in the early hours of New Year's Day. Driving along with four other people in the car, Purdy is said to have made an unsafe turn and crashed into a fence. One passenger was killed and another was hurt. The CHP stated that Purdy eventually made the choice to leave the scene of the accident.

According to Purdy, he found that after the collision he did not have cell phone reception so he began walking down the road in search of assistance. A separate car pulled up alongside Purdy and asked what had happened, he told them of the crash and they drove back to the scene. At that time, the fatally injured 17-year old passenger was loaded into the second car and taken to the hospital.

Although alcohol was found in the vehicle, Alan Purdy is not charged with drunk driving.
