MySpace Involved in Legal Action

Posted by Rick PattersonJanuary 19, 2007 3:23 PM

It has long been advised that parents pay serious attention to what their children are doing and who they are interacting with while on a computer.

MySpace, the popular Internet social network, has become very popular, particularly with teens. Of late, the families of five teenaged girls who were sexually assaulted by predators they met while on MySpace, have sued the owner 'News Corp.' for negligence and fraud. The cases were filed Superior Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The minimum age to register on MySpace is 14. Last year the service arranged it so that members who are 18 years or older could not contact 14 to 15-year-olds unless that already knew the younger member's e-mail address. The company is also in the process of adding new software to allow more parental control.
