Senate President Mike Miller told a state conference of county officials meeting in Cambridge that legislation to reduce air pollution from cars "is going to pass. In an interview, several days earlier, House Speaker Mike Busch voiced a similar belief.

According to The World Health Organization, currently air pollution leads to 4.6 million deaths a year, which is a larger number than the one taken by automobile accidents. It is worth mentioning that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has stated that the majority of deaths as a result of pollution can be blamed on indoor pollution.
Indoor polution cames from things such as hair spray, lead paint and paint solvents, emissions from carpeting and plywood, and scented "air fresheners."
