Salmonella Outbreak - Recall Extended

By now, the word has gotten around about the Salmonella outbreak in peanut butter and the subsequent recall of Peter Pan brand peanut butter in addition to the Wal-Mart Great Value brand. The initial recall by ConAgra Foods covered peanut butter that was produced at the ConAgra Foods Sylvester, Georgia facility, and went back as far as December 2005.

Things have changed. ConAgra Foods is now stating that any and all peanut butter in addition to its peanut butter topping, which could be contaminated with salmonella, should be recalled going back as far as 2004. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have linked 425 cases of salmonella contamination to the peanut butter. As I reported in an earlier blog, this recall has now gone global. ConAgra Foods currently exports peanut butter to countries all over the world. Should you have any of the above-mentioned brands, it would be wise to discard them right away.
