Mattel recalled nine million toys on Tuesday. It appears that the concern is a magnet that could be ingested by children. Of particular concern, according to Dr. Robert J. Geller, associate professor of pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and director of the Georgia Poison Center, is the fact that if more than one magnet is swallowed it may cause severe intestinal problems if those magnets were to stick together.

"The American Academy of Pediatrics puts out a list of items that it recommends parents keep away from infants and children due to worries about the risk of choking." Some of those items are: small balls, removable rubber wheels, coins and batteries. Parents should stay vigilent for children with these type of items even if they are in products that are not currently considered to be defective products.
