Internet Drug Death A Warning To Canadians

The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) have long been concerned about drugs that consumers are able to purchase over the internet. Now, with the first confirmed death as a result of purchasing counterfeit drugs over the internet, their worst fears have been realized.

" A BC Coroner's report has concluded that pills bought from a fake online pharmacy are to blame for the March death of a Vancouver Island woman. These drugs were later determined to be contaminated with extremely high quantities of metal."

Dr. Jeff Poston, CPhA's Executive Director, strongly recommends that consumers buy their drugs from their local pharmacy where patient safety is a priority. It has been reported that counterfeit/defective drugs are becoming commonplace in the global market. It would not be at all unusual to receive counterfeit drugs over the internet that have no active ingredients, or in the case of the decedent, toxic ingredients. Buyer beware!
