FDA Widens Salmonella Warning

Posted by Rick PattersonFebruary 27, 2007 12:09 PM

The warning, with respect to which peanut butter to discard, has just been widened by The U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Earlier in the investigation, the agency said that certain batches of the Peter Pan and Wal-Mart's Great Value brand peanut butter containing the product code beginning with 2111 might contain Salmonella and should be discarded.

Of late, the FDA feels that all Peter Pan peanut butter purchased since May 2006 should be discarded. It is still unknown just how Salmonella got into the peanut butter in the ConAgra Foods plant, which has been shut down since Wednesday. The Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 300 people nationwide since August.
