Vehicle Accident Involves School Bus - 6 Killed

Six members of an Ohio college baseball team lost their lives when their bus plunged off the side of a highway overpass and landed on the pavement 30 feet below. The team, whose members were like family to each other, team member A. J. Ramthun recalls, were driving at around 4:00 a.m. on their way to Florida. After the tragic accident and to the horror of those observing the scene, the pavement was strewn with the teams equipment and their blood.

Many of the team members who were fortunate enough not to loose their lives, climbed out of the escape hatch in the roof of the bus. After being involved in such a horrif traffic accident, they were dazed and injured but at least they were alive. Ramthun, 18 recalls "I just looked out and saw the road coming up at me. I remember the catcher tapping me on the head, telling me to get out because there was gas all over," said A.J. Ramthun, an 18-year-old second baseman from Springfield, Ohio, who was asleep in a window seat and suffered a broken collarbone and cuts on his face from broken glass.
